Max Biaggi to miss Qatar Round

Thursday, 15 October 2015 11:49 GMT

The 44-year-old Italian will not race at Losail this weekend.

Max Biaggi will not take part in this weekend’s final round of the 2015 eni FIM Superbike World Championship in Qatar. The two-time WorldSBK Champion pulled his left adductor muscle while training with his mountain bike in Monte-Carlo; because of that, his carefully planned participation in the event has been cancelled at the last minute.

Biaggi first tweeted about his injury last Tuesday: ‘Unfortunately, due to yesterday’s crash while mountain biking, my participation in the Qatar Round is in doubt.”

The news quickly spread across websites and social media, but it was only on Wednesday that the 44-year-old Italian confirmed his withdrawal from the round, again via Twitter: ‘No Doha, I’m sorry but I won’t take part in the final WorldSBK Round. During one of my usual mountain bike outings, I pulled my left adductor muscle. This prevents me from racing in Qatar. I’m so disappointed; Aprilia and myself were ready for great things!’

Biaggi was on track last week at the Losail International Circuit for a four-day test in night conditions, much like the test performed before the Malaysian Round at the end of July. The Qatar Round would have been his third event of the year, as he also hit the track at Misano last June.
